2020 opened with an Iceland engagement session, in the first days of January.
It was a dream coming to life: landscape, waterfalls, glaciers and auroras; travel, challenge and adventure!
A couple was crossing the world, from China, and was taking us with them to live this adventure. They would be subject, in between the white, in our photographs. Adventure was what we had, but in a very different way from what we expected!
We learned at the end that, in those days, we had experienced the worst storm in Iceland in the last 20 years – in the century! It was so serious that the airspace closed, our flight was delayed 2 days and our stay was cut in half. The snows were so intense added to winds so strong that we photographed with our eyes closed and crouched down so as not to fall over.
From the list of places to visit that we had prepared, with photos, notes and gps coordinates, organized according to various possible itineraries, we managed to see two.
It was frustrating! But it was stirring at the same time! We shared with these two people an intense section of life, impetuous and extreme. The engagement session that resulted from all the incidents we've been through didn't have Skógafoss or Seljalandsfoss, Reynisfjara or Sólheimasandur. But it had challenge, uncanny and reaction! It had intimacy!
And it had Gullfoss but turned into a report: the effort to get there, soaked and almost crawling to face enraged gusts.
We ended up at the supermarket, where love is, after all, as much as at the foot of a beautiful waterfall. It was our kind of session, even if it wasn't the expected Iceland engagement session.
It is said that, on every trip, you must save something unseen so that there are reasons to come back…We have that guaranteed!
Nannan and Muning, shall we?
